Rick, a graduate of the Uniriversity of Kansas, developed a strong interest in architecture, primarily residential, including early American plantations while still in high school,. It was during this time that his interest in science and the built environment redirected his passion for architecture towards engineering. He earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Architectural and Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1989.
After graduating, he began his career in structural engineering in Chicago where he worked on a broad range of projects from 52-story skyscrapers to single family residences. In 1996, his desire to be closer to his family brought him back to St. Louis where he continued to expand his portfolio by working on a diverse range of projects including commercial, healthcare, structural condition assessments, renovations, historical preservation, and multiple projects including design for extreme events.
Away from work, Rick enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys flying radio controlled planes and woodworking; where his primary interest lies in the arts and craft style, especially the style of Greene and Greene.
